What is Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is a first-in-class dual receptor agonist medication that mimics two hormones – GLP-1 and GIP. It works by:

  • Slowing down digestion
  • Simulating insulin production
  • Reduces sugar production in the liver

How to Take Tirzepatide

You can inject Tirzepatide into your abdomen, thigh or upper arm. We recommend alternating your injection sites to prevent irritation. Here’s a step-by-step on how to take Tirzepatide:

  1. Select your injection site
  2. Clean the injection site
  3. Attach needle and insert into the injection site
  4. Push the injection and hold for five seconds
  5. Remove the needle
  6. Dispose of the needle

Before you are given your Tirzepatide vials, we will give you all the necessary information regarding administering your injections safely. Our team remain on hand at all times to answer any ongoing questions or concerns regarding your treatment.

Am I Eligible for Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is authorised for patients with a BMI (body mass index) higher than 30 or a BMI over 27 if you have a condition related to your weight. The BMI criteria may be lower depending on your ethnicity. So, you may be eligible for Tirzepatide if:

  • Slowing down digestion
  • Simulating insulin production
  • Reduces sugar production in the liver

Chat with us today to determine whether Tirzepatide will be a good fit for you. During the consultation, we’ll request information about your medical history to ensure that it is a safe option for you.

How Effective is Tirzepatide?

In short, Tirzepatide is considered very effective. Tirzepatide works by affecting your appetite, making you feel fuller for longer. Ultimately, this will help you lose weight over some time.

Researchers estimate that people can lose up to 26.6 of their body weight when taking Tirzepatide, which is an average weight loss of 60 pounds in under two years. The results appear to be more impressive than other weight loss medications such as Semaglutide.

It can take anything from 8 to 12 weeks to start seeing results, but most patients will start to feel benefits even within the first couple of weeks. At Dr Frank’s Weight Loss Clinic, our patients tend to lose up to 20% of their body weight in the first year.

Comparing weight change: Semgalutide Vs Tirzepatide

The study found that Tirzepatide  doses of 5 mg, 10 mg, and 15 mg helped people lose more weight than semaglutide 1 mg by the 40th week. Specifically, the 15 mg Tirzepatide dose led to twice as much weight loss as the semaglutide dose by that time.*

What if I miss a dose of Tirzepatide?
Can I take Tirzepatide while pregnant?

The safety and efficacy of Tirzepatide in pregnant and breastfeeding women have not been established. Animal studies have shown potential adverse effects on the fetus, so it should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Women with reproductive potential need to use contraception during treatment.

Can I overdose on Tirzepatide?

If you have doubled on up doses and/or believe you have overdosed with the medication, please get in touch with us immediately and we can schedule a call with one of our specialist nurses to review your clinical signs and symptoms. Patients may experience gastrointestinal adverse reactions, including nausea.

There is no specific antidote for overdose of Tirzepatide. A prolonged period of observation and treatment of these symptoms may be necessary, taking into account the half-life of Tirzepatide (approximately 5 days).

If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible within 4 days after the missed dose.

In each case, you can then resume the regular once-weekly dosing schedule.
